Tantrik Order in America

Apparently Messrs. Bernard, Norton, Hamati, De Lois and Tuell were the
controlling forces of the American "Tantrik Order". Elsewhere in their first
American "Tantric" publication it states:
"American educators in this system, attached to all lodges on the Western
Continent, are inspected, directed and controlled by five regularly ordained
Tantrik Priests acting in the capacity of Primates."

Thus far there is little available data on the activities of the "Tantrik
Order in America" or what ultimately happened to its membership. There is
reference to many important Sanskrit titles, which are listed with the
intriguing information that:

"The English translations of these texts complete are to be found in the
Cabinets of the Order, in the four jurisdictions of the United States."

TantraWorksT will feature data on the "Tantrik Order" and its reference
works, some of which have been acquired. Anyone with pertinent information
on the membership, texts, artifacts of the "Tantrik Order" is asked to make
contact.

"SEXUAL SECRETS: The Alchemy of Ecstasy"
by Nik Douglas and Penny Slinger

"Monumentally researched, comprehensively detailed and profusely
illustrated. No doubt about it, 'Sexual Secrets' is a timely, well rounded
masterpiece. This reviewer's reaction can be summed up in two words; Buy
it!". (Yoga Journal - Aug. 1980)

Note on Nik Douglas:

Between 1966 and 1974 Nik spent most of his time in Asia, visiting remote
areas of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Sikkim, Thailand and Indonesia, building
up his knowledge of the customs, beliefs and spiritual practices of Hindus
and Buddhists. He researched Oriental medicine, alchemy, art, sculpture and
mysticism, studying with Hindu yogis, Buddhist lamas, doctors and Tantra
experts.

Nik worked with Ajit Mookerjee, author of the important books "Tantra Art"
and "Tantra Asana", and helped organize his Tantra art collections and the
first large "Tantra" exhibit at London's Hayward Gallery. In 1968 Nik was
formally initiated into traditional Hindu Tantra by Durga Das Shastri, a
Bengali Siddha yogi. Following this he studied Tibetan Tantra with Dudjom
Rinpoche, the Gyalwa Karmapa and Lama Kunzang Rinzin, Indian alchemy
(Rasayana) and Ayurvedic medicine with Dr. Bindu Joshi, Tibetan iconography
and art with Lama Anagarika Govinda and was furthur initiated into the
Shakta Tantra tradition by Gangotri Giri ("Gangotri Baba"), a Siddha yogi
and medical doctor with much experience in traditional Tantric arts and
sciences. Nik's relationship with Gangotri Baba has continued to the
present.

That's the way to learn tantra, one-on-one with a personal guru and not
from some institutionalized "pop" guru.

My Guru in Rishikesh varned us against Tantra. Swami Muktananda of Yoga
Niketan in Rishikesh told us that Tantra in India is similar to black Magic
in the west. One will find that Aleister (the great beast) Crowley was a
student of Tantra.

Boogity, boogity! :-D

That's funny coming from a practitioner of Kashmir Shaivism which is a
form of tantra. Yes, there are plenty of phonies and ignorant people
doing black magic but that isn't what tantra is about.

Not only that, TM is a form of tantra.

I have stopped with my TM practice, since 2007 where I met Dadabhagwan an
enligthent master dead since 1988. But seeing his photo on his website
http://www.dadabhagwan.org turned me on and started the fire within. And I
became a Mahatma. I do not meditate anymore, because I am now Gyana yogi
doing Jana yoga.
