"The TM bija mantras are found in the Vedic literature,
revealed to the rishis by Lord Dhanvantari, then Acharya
Shree, Brahmanand Saraswati, gave all the bija mantras
to Marshy for our enjoyment. Then the sage Vedavyasa
attached the Mân.d.ûkya Upanis.ad. to the Atharva
Veda and the Brahma Sutras to the Vedanta. Our root
guru, Sri Gaudapada then made comments on the

"n fact, the origin of TM is none other than the Adi
Shankara himself, as stated by Acharya Sri in his
Sutrabhyasa, in his Soundaryalahari, and in his
sub-commentary on the Vivarna of Veda Vyasa on

When I learned TM some many ears ago I was told that TM came from a lineage
of Vedic spiritual masters. How ever these days TMO call it not TM but
"MaharishiŽs transcendental meditation", because now they claim it came from
Mahesh himself.

When I learned TM some many ears ago I was told that
TM came from a lineage of Vedic spiritual masters. How
ever these days TMO call it not TM but "Maharishi´s
transcendental meditation", because now they claim it
came from Mahesh himself.
Meditation has been part of the Indian history for at least
several thousand years, so no, the Maharishi didn't make
anything up. In fact, the Maharishi got the idea of 'TM' from
his teacher. The Maharishi's teacher has expressed the
'Perennial Philosophy', the notion that there is a Ultimate
Reality which is beyond the material world. According to
Aldus Huxley, there is an ethic, a philosophy, that places
man's final end in the knowledge of the immanent and
transcendent Ground of all being, the Absolute.

"The Perennial Philosophy is expressed most succinctly
in the Sanskrit formula, tat tvam asi ('That thou art'); the
Atman, or immanent eternal Self, is one with Brahman,
the Absolute Principle of all existence; and the last end
of every human being, is to discover the fact for himself,
to find out who he really is." - Aldous Huxley
